ArcGIS is the platform technology used in BusinessDecision. ArcGIS integrates the geographic extent of your library's administrative boundaries with other information by building spatial datasets that are distributed over the web to your desktop computer. ArcGIS establishes a seamless GIS environment for the end user. It is a complete, integrated system for geographic data creation, management, integration, and analysis.
ArcIMS serves map images to the end user based upon their unique request such as which layers to turn on and off and what extent of the map to show. The power of ArcIMS is the ability to distribute all the GIS data and services across the web in a multi-customer, multi-user environment. The technology found in ArcIMS provides secure access to map services to protect data integrity, is highly scalable so that BusinessDecision can grow to meet the needs of all its customers, and utilizes standards-based communications that enables the GIS to be delivered in a browser-based format.
ArcSDE manages spatial data in a relational database management system (RDBMS) and stores the spatial data required by ArcIMS. ArcSDE enables BusinessDecision to integrate tabular data (library and demographic, for example) stored in Microsoft SQL Server with the geo
graphic component in the database, and then serves it to user's web browser through ArcIMS. ArcSDE provides the infrastructure to manage multiple customers, provides robust performance, enables data updates, and provides an application programming interface to extend BusinessDecision capabilities with your other database vendors. |
